[Feedback] Add melee weapons to Payday 3.
Why not add some melee weapons to the payday 3? Melee weapons in payday 2 were fun to use , cool to look at and effective when using the right builds. Tell me it doesn't seem cool to wield a katana during a heist. Also add the charge ability like in payday 2 the longer you hold the attack button the more damage it will do.

des MergedIt’s kind of hard to dominate cops in stealth without killing them, and I don’t like that officers can hit you but you can’t… unless it’s a button I can’t find

DeaGrips MergedPerhaps you could add melees to the game just like in PAYDAY 2? You could add a knife, or something.

LLM | Kursk MergedCurrently, it appears no melee weapons are returning. While Payday: The Heist also didn't have any, and Payday 2's system was rather baren in terms of options, I do think giving us different types of melee weapons with different attributes and purposes would be more fun. For example, knives deal significant damage to a cop as opposed to the weapon butt, fist-based more reliably cause stagger, a "utility" weapon that gives lockpicking and other utility options, and larger weapons that can do the same with more damage but slower swing speed and weapon swap speed.
1
These could then make up melee "categories" so you're more choosing based on what you'd want out of a melee weapon, instead of just the stats alone), allowing variety without too much effort in the balancing department.
Final kicker could be relegating these into the Secondary Weapon spot, similar to the function of the OVERSAW 9000 in Payday 2, with a perk tree for these weapons. Give up a firearm for melee damage and utility -

El Berto 000 MergedIs PD3 abandoning melee weapons entirely? Currently just whacking someone with your gun is extremely underpowered. Having the option to use various melee weapons could certainly bring a new dynamic to the game. If you use a blade in stealth mode you should for example leave blood evidence that can be spotted versus using a bludgeon which can knock out temporarily. Having conductive weapons like tasers that can be shot or prodded would be great in the heat of the moment to stop the enemy in their tracks. I cannot be alone in thinking PD3 would have the variety of PD2 albeit more refinement across all the loved features.

jamie56k MergedWould love to see melee weapons in Payday 3. Sure, hitting people with your gun is nice but having actual melee weapons in our loadout is better. A nice touch is being able to mod in new melee weapons like on Payday 2, it keeps the game fresh.

Andreas Sebastian Zoch MergedI think Payday 3's more realistic approach is great. I don't think there really needs to be a chainsaw or a two-handed sword, but a collection of brass knuckles, knives or batons would be quite realistic equipment for a robbery and would fit well into Payday 3. Melee weapons would also solve most of the damage problem. I found it very realistic that a shock with the stock had little effect on an armored enemy. However, an unarmored normal guard seems to be more vulnerable where the damage with the shaft might still be too low.

KiraLiterally could copy-paste the melee system from pd2. I see no positive value in how it was changed. Its extremely disappointing imho.

MR_CHICKEN_NUGGETAdd a wet mop as a melee weapon and when you attack with this item water effects splash on your screen and it makes 1960s batman style cheesy fight words appear with sound effects. Silly items like Comically Large Spoon of Gold are funny to have in the game.

Miles Fox MergedMake two melee types: one is "blade" type, and second one is "bonk" (don't know how it's called properly in English). Blade type with deal damage to the enemy (and civs), and the "bonk" one will instead stun them/knock them down, but also deal some amout of damage, but significantly less, than blade. Melee being able to headshot (at least pickaxe-type or bat-type melees) would also be really good addition. And maybe weapons that do pierce attack instead of slice one could pierce enemy armor

angeloHKSMy suggestion, if tab melee button it uses the buttstock or pistol whip. but if you hold melee button it pulls out knife, ice axe or machete and combine with attack button for quick slash or hold it to deal more damage.
Or able us to toggle between buttstock/pistol whip attack and switch to melee weapon -

SheshI think payday 3 deserves a really fun and much more advanced melee weapon system than payday 2 and I understand that will take time, but for that reason I heavily recommend an immediate measure: A kick. As someone else in this thread said its not fun that cops can hit you but you cant hit them. So I propose to add a simple kick. It would be a fun and fitting addition to the game, which cant be as difficult to add as like an entire new melee weapon system. The kick should do minimal damage but be effective at stunning non-specials. You could even design skills around it, but I guess thats more work again. What I really like about this idea is how easy it is to picture in game. Like it makes perfect sense for the vibe of payday. A kick that stuns is such a solid "fuck you" to those cops trying to stop your looting.

SomeoneI'm honestly glad melee is gone. I think melee being gone allows for a more fun and cohesive gunplay-focused game. I'll miss the crazy melee builds, but if they go back to perk decks, I'll be pissed.

TobyYeah, I certainly prefer the more grounded feel of the simple weapon bash. It keeps the mechanic simple, though it certainly needs some buffs. Should totally stun more consistently, apply some actual damage to active enemies (not to civs or surrendering law enforcement), and knock out unaware patrols for a few moments. A suppressed gunshot, throwing knife, or chokehold takedown would still be required to incapacitate, but it's super jarring to smash the back of the camera operator's skull just for him to stumble and draw his weapon.
Oversized spoons are haha and whatever, but why would somebody really lower the dense hunk of metal they already have in their hands just to grab for something else? I view the weapon bash melee as an improvised panic slap--a "get off me!" function. That enforces the tense vibe while returning the heister to the ongoing gunfight ASAP. Like I said, it really only needs the obvious buffs for function and believability. -

h3mThey should honestly make melee its own thing - like make it actually cool and useful this time around by giving us the ability to actually equip a melee weapon. They should have unique takedown animations, a light attack + heavy attack option. A melee skill line would be good too. You are already putting yourself at a disadvantage by using melee, so there should be several bonuses applied, such as - If you kill enough cops with a melee, you'll get the ability to instantly take down multiple in a row with some swift takedown animations.

DedicateI want them to bring it back because it would be fun. The game is already incredibly unrealistic we just need fun. I'd also prefer if they didn't deal damage to civilians because the get down smack is great.

MikeIt would be much more realistic and useful for players by adding any kind of melee weapons that would do damage for any close combat perspective with the enemies it’s much better than what we currently using the guns as a melee that does not do any much to the enemies in a close combat situation. So please add melee weapons that would be helpful.

NoobAimI don't want to melee kill a civilian. Punching the civilian is easier to get them down or to stop following you. I really don't want to hold a button just to tell them to stop following me

Kaleb Baldwin MergedAnother feature I’d love to see is an expanded arsenal, particularly melee weapons (or even just a knife skill) and more secondary weapons beyond pistols. This would improve the flow of gameplay, especially in close-quarters combat, and make defensive strategies in tight spaces more viable. With the lack of armor regeneration, I’ve often found myself overwhelmed in confined areas, even when using cover.
